Max Hollein

In this episode of our 'Building the Future' series, we talk to Max Hollein, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Hollein has led the institution’s artistic vision, programming and strategic priorities since 2023. He has overseen over 100 exhibitions, initiated major projects like the Tang Wing for Modern and Contemporary Art, and advanced public engagement through education and digital initiatives. Previously, he directed the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and held leadership roles at the Schirn Kunsthalle, Städel Museum, and Liebieghaus in Frankfurt, driving significant growth and innovative programming. A Vienna-born art historian and economist, Hollein began his career at New York’s Guggenheim Museum and has been widely recognised for his contributions to the arts, earning numerous international honours.
