Essential Homes Research Project Receives 2023 Global Architecture Design Award
November 30, 2023
The Essential Homes Research Project, developed by the Norman Foster Foundation in partnership with Holcim and exhibited at the Venice Biennale 2023, has been awarded the Architectural Innovation of the year prize in the Global Architecture Design Awards 2023. It has also been recognised as the runner-up in the Sustainable Project of the year category.
The Essential Homes Research Project is a first proposal to explore durable, comfortable and dignified homes. It suggests a fast build alternative to tents or similar short-lived shelters, which offer scant protection from the elements and uncomfortable living conditions.
The next stage of the project will scale up the solution through real projects in diverse locations of the world to start introducing the Essential Homes as a quick and sustainable alternative in conventional affordable housing and temporary accommodation.
