Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture
December 20, 2021
From April 8 to September 18, 2022, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will host ‘Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture’, an exhibition organized in collaboration with the Norman Foster Foundation. It will explore the relevance of the automobile in relation to the history of art and design in the last century. The exhibition will occupy the entire second floor of the Museum and will be curated by architect Norman Foster.
The presentation will include 38 emblematic and rarely seen automobiles, as well as 300 other pieces including paintings and sculptures by great artists, photographs and audiovisual documents, sketchbooks, and models by some of the most influential architects and designers of the last century. A portion of the works on display will come from the Foster Family’s personal collection, which will be joined by a notable selection of institutional and private loans from European and U.S. collections.
The installation, conceived by the Norman Foster Foundation in conjunction with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, will be as dynamic as the works presented. The exhibition will also address in one of its main galleries the theme of the mobility of the future, bringing together sixteen of the world’s leading design and engineering schools.
