Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum 2019
August 15, 2019
The 2019 edition of the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum took place from Thursday August 15 to Saturday August 17, 2019.
On the last day of the event, BYD hosted a panel on the future of urban transportation titled The Outlook for the Future of Urban Transportation: Battery-Electric Cars, Autonomous Vehicles, and Advanced Rapid Transit. This panel discussion also provided an opportunity for BYD to showcase its innovative and electric battery-powered Luxury SUV Tang.
BYD used the opportunity afforded by the Concours d’Elegance to bring together experts in transportation strategy, auto design and architecture. There, the invited experts discussed ways in which technology and architecture can be blended to create smart, sustainable transportation systems. The panel looked at what is available now – and what is to come in the future – in terms of battery-electric cars, autonomous vehicles and straddle-type rail systems like the BYD SkyRail.
The panel showcased BYD’s commitment to taking the design of vehicles that utilize green technology to new heights. Panellists included BYD’s Global Design Director, Wolfgang Egger; the head of the Norman Foster Foundation’s Architecture, Design and Technology Units, architect Hernán Kraviez; and the principal of Gensler, architect JF Finn III, an expert on the impact of autonomous vehicles on cities. Thomas Stone, BYD’s senior strategic advisor with more than forty years of experience in transit technologies, served as panel moderator. The panel addressed the rapid improvement in battery technology and focused on the potential for improved urban mobility through battery-powered automobiles, trucks, buses and autonomous transit systems.
