The Norman Foster Foundation is currently taking part in ‘It’s Urgent!’, a project curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director at the Serpentine Galleries in London. The exhibition of posters comprised more than 100 contemporary artists such as Tomás Saraceno, Jenny Holzer, Brian Eno, and Olafur Eliasson among others. The project started on 27 June will last until 27 September 2020 at the Médico-Social, Parc des Ateliers in Luma Arles.

Last year, artists were invited to think about the present and the future with an exhibition of posters on billboards in the city of Copenhagen. The idea then was to make the artists’ works available to the public, inserting them into public life and the community.

With the contribution of many more artists with their work, It’s Urgent! continued to grow and was then presented at Luma Westbau, between 2019 and early 2020. Invited artists from across the world were asked to respond to the question of what is urgent in our time, resulting in responses covering the themes of ecology, inequality, common future, solidarity, anti-racism, and social justice, among others.

As the project continues this year in Arles, Norman Foster was invited to participate and will be joined by more artists for the duration of the display over the summer. Their contribution will create a portrait of the evolution of ideas and concerns, characteristic of the current moment.
